A Practice of Automatic Writing

There are days when my mind is too full. Runnining with the to-dos, the questions, and the old thought patterns looping through.

Journeying into self-awareness can bring in a lot of noise – internally and externally. You may also start to notice that the mind has a mission of its own.

And yet, underneath all that noise… something softer is speaking.

A deeply rooted knowing. A quiet wisdom.

That’s where automatic writing comes in.
It’s about listening more deeply and opening a channel between your conscious self and the parts of you that are ancient, intuitive, and free.

What Is Automatic Writing?

It’s a practice of writing without editing, without overthinking, and without planning. You sit down, ask a question, or set an intention, and then let your pen move.

Sometimes, it makes sense. Sometimes, it doesn’t. But if you stay, if you try – something will show up for you.

A phrase. A realization. A nudge. A truth you forgot you knew.

I’ve had messages come through that shook me to my core, revealed the path a bit more, and genuinely cracked me open.

Gentle reminders I didn’t know I needed. Love notes from the parts of me I’ve been too busy to hear.

It really is such an incredibly powerful practice when you allow yourself to show up.

What This Has Taught Me

Automatic writing helped me remember that I already hold so much wisdom within.
Sometimes (most times), my body, my intuition, and my soul already have the answers.

I just need to pause long enough to hear it.

It’s also helped me soften my inner critic.
To sit with the truth, even when it’s uncomfortable and to meet my emotions with curiosity, not control.

I don’t do automatic writing every day. But when I do, it’s one of my favorite ways to meet myself again. Not the one figuring everything out. Just the one who’s here, honest, and still becoming.

Before You Begin: Coming Home to Your Body

This isn’t just about writing. It’s about reconnecting.

Automatic writing becomes more powerful when we first come home to ourselves – to the breath, to the body, and the quiet wisdom waiting beneath the surface.

Before you press play on the recording or begin your own practice, take a few moments to settle.

Let this be your threshold:

  • Sit somewhere that feels safe and still
  • Let your spine gently rise. No forcing, just a comfortable, open posture
  • Place one hand on your heart, one on your belly
  • Feel the rhythm of your breath without changing it
  • Close your eyes and whisper:
    • “I am home in this body. I am open to what comes through.”

You don’t need to search for the right words.
You don’t need to force clarity.

Just let your pen move from this place of grounded presence. Let the body speak through the page.

When we begin from the body (anchored, aware), we give the mind a softer place to land. That’s when the deeper voice can rise.

Want to Try It With Me?

I recorded one of my own automatic writing sessions this week, and I’m sharing it here as a companion to your healing. Free for everyone.

The more we pause to listen, the more we remember who we are. Ready to try?
